Dr. Berne’s classic on Transactional Analysis which was probably the first pop-psychology book to explain social interactions in a novel way. He believed all of us had three roles or ego states – the Parent, the Adult, and the Child, which they switch between. When my Adult talked to your Adult it was all fine. But when my Parent talked to your CHild and you responded with your Parent talking to my Child there was trouble 😉 Very, very readable with lots of examples and ‘mind-game’s thrown in, it featured in the New York Times bestseller list of the time.
